File 022: The Process of Time (Evolution)
Shikai: A new year comes, and with it everyone sits and flashes back over the ones that have gone by. Sometime towards the end of the school year in 2001 (though Leigh insists it feels much longer) her younger brother came home from his private catholic high school, wearing the traditional attire for said scgool. Dress shirt, tie, dress pants- Except everything on him in black. Leigh, at the time, saw him and it instantly triggered her creative impulses. Hence, the first time she became aware of me.

This is the earliest drawing of me that she can find, though certainly not the first. Inked by hand with cheapo sharpie markers, photographed with a digital camera, and slowly and painfully colored with a mouse. This was me then, and I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. Especially when she discovered that I was the cause of a massive informational apocalypse that left most of the affected world wanting my head on a stick.

Though I enjoyed utter solitude at first, it didn't last for long. Later that summer, Jiko was introduced. Back then, he was extremely annoying and hyperactive, entirely unapealling. He was intended as a partner to balance myself in the complicated story that was evolving for us, though she didn't expect that we would eventually become a romantic item. Frankly, neither did I. Neither did Jiko.

For her birthday that year, she got her first tablet, allowing for much greater precision for drawing and coloring via the computer.

And she drew like a madwoman. Constantly. Kitoku, Jiko's twin sister was discovered among a cast of others. As was Open Cavas, a simple drawing program that she used nearly exclusively for quite a long time.

During which time, this happened. The details and little secrets of our stories began to spill out, prooving to be much more interwined that she had expected.

Though I suppose the fact that she'd been first exposed to the yaoi genre a year and a half before and had been growing rapidly more and more fond of it didn't help. >>;

In May 2002, she finally introduced Schism to the public. The start was rocky, she didn't know the first thing about drawing comics or properly telling a story, but she didn't give up either.

Her confidence grew, as did her artistic abilities.

As did we.

As we continue to do.

Quite a lot has changed since then, naturally. I'm not going to waste your time by going into details about all the ups and downs. One thing worth mentioning though, is that while artists develop their skill/style with plently of work and practice as Leigh did, a significant sized portion of that work and practice revolved around us. Hence making us all the more important to her.

Which can be seen in the fact that she incarnates us in other forms as well. Such as in games like the Sims.

And in more recent developments, the Sims 2 with much better graphics. >>;

This is a Shikai plushie made as a gift for Leigh by Wifey and given to her at Otakon 2004. When she has a free spot in her schedule, Leigh is going to commission a Jiko plushie as well.

Late in the year 2003, she'd decided she wanted to see me in the most real form she could possibly get for me, the best solution to that being in the form of a Full Choice System Super Dollfie. This was the picture she had sent to Volks as a reference for how my face should be painted.

You can all figure out the rest from there. It's still going. That's where I've been. Here's where I am now.

And this is where I want to go.
