100 Questions for SD Owners

1. What is your name and birthdate?
Leigh Bader, unleashed upon the world on September 30th, 1980.
2. How long have you been interested in dolls?
BJDs, a little more than a year. Dolls in general, not really. I had dolls growing up, but none that I really was attached to. Except my brother's GI Joes. And Transformers. And My Little Pony. >>
3. How many SD dolls do you have?
Currently two. One FCS SD13 F-28 boy, and one BlueFairy Jerome.
4. What is/are the name(s) of your doll(s)?
Shikai (F-28) and Vikas (Jerome)
5. What type of SD do you have?
See above.
6. Do you believe in Fate?
I believe a lot of things happen for a reason, but that you also have to give fate a little kick in the ass every now and then. ^__^
7. Who is the manufacturer of your doll(s)?
Volks and BlueFairy. (as I've said already.)
8. What was your first reaction when you saw your SD for the first time?
Vikas arrived first, and he just amazed me to no end! being the first doll I owned, it was quite exciting to learn how he moved and behaved. And I remeber thinking how tall he was. Which really made meget mind-boggled at the thought of how Shikai would be when he arrived, as he was ordered two weeks before Vikas. I quite fell in love with Vikas' tiny size and his spunky little attitude, and after I gave him his first face-up, I loved him even more.
Shikai damn near killed me with anticipation. He is THE doll for me, my dream doll because he's the new home for a character from my online comic who's very dear to me. While I was giddy and excited about Vikas, Shikai's arrival was a much more of a 'calm rapture' sort of thing. I felt like crying because I ws so happy to see him home and n one piece and exactly as I specificed him. And of course as with him and Vikas, they got drug eeeeveerywhere through the house with me for the first couple days. XD
9. Have you shown your doll off at a Doll Show?
Nope, never been to any doll shows. But I do go to anime cons to seel my artwork, and they will definitly be coming with me. ^__^
10. Which do you prefer? Commercial SDs (such as Kyon customed dolls) or customizing your own SD?
I love customs and can definitly apprieciate them, but when it comes to dolls I own, I prefer to customize them myself, to an extent. I lik being very hands-on with my dolls, and doing customizations myself helps me feel even closer to them.
11. How do you feel about Commercial SDs?
I like a lot of them actually. There's a lot of great ones out there, though I would feel sllliightly different about buying on of those than I would for something like an FCS. Mostly because they already have a 'past' that doesn't include me, and I'd be 'reinventing' them. But isn't too big a deal. It wouldn't prevent me from buying one if I loved it enough, or if the face mold fit a certain character of mine more than any standard releases. ^^
12. Did you create a personality/background for your doll(s)?
Yeap. Shikai's personality has developed over a period of three years since he's the main character of my webcomic Schism. Vikas, since he was much more of an impulse buy, somehow warped into a younger version of a character from another comic project I'm slowly working on- As such I'm still getting to know him and his background as he tells it to me.
13. What type of relationship do you have with your doll (ex. Beloved daughter, friend)?
I see them as close friends. There is a bit of "mommy" feeling towards them since their personalities and traits I created and assigned to them though.
14. Does your SD have a nickname?
Actually, neither of them have 'real' nicknames. Shikai usually calls Vikas twerp, brat, or kid instead of by his name most of the time, and Vikas just calls him a jerk or a meanie, but that's as close as they come to having nicknames. XD;;
15. What special meaning does your doll's name have?
Shikai: This is actually a mispelling of the japanese word 'shitai' meaning a corpse. There's a slew of reasons Shikai is named this, mainly due to his very-not-pretty past.
Vikas: There's not really a greta deal of significance/symbolism behind his name, except that it's one i found looking through abby name lists and really realy liked it. XD
16. Does your SD have a special seat/place in your room? If so, where?
Most of the time they sit on my desk next to my computer monitor. I have a little sofa which is a tad short for Shikai but fits Vikas perfectly. (Shikai always seems to prefer sitting on the floor/desk/whatever anyway, so it works out nicely.) ^__^
17. Did you buy a chair specifically for your SD?
Sure did! I managed to snag the above mentioned-sofa off ebay for five bucks. Couldn't get a better deal than that! =D I want to get more funiture for them eventually, particularly a desk and chair for Shikai.X3
18. Does your SD have accessories of her own? (ex. pets, toys, hairbrush)
I don't have too many assecories for them as of now, but that will change. Besides the chair, Shikai has his own little computer, a gun, some cigarettes. Vikas has his sofa and often can be seen hanging around some random anime plushies I have. At some point I want to buy an SD-sized piano, beds, and so on. I need more room to put al this stuff. o__o
19. What hard to find items do you wish you could get for your doll?
A desk and chair that won't cost me an arm and a leg! >_< And some glasses that actually fit Shikai without being too huge. And googles.
20. What is the most expensive thing you've bought for your doll?
Right now, just their clothes! But that will change when Jiko comes- Shikai I bought for myself. Jiko is also for 'myself' but more for Shikai. XD
21. When you go out, do you take your doll with you?
I do every so often. ^^
22. If so, where have you taken your doll?
Mostly to my friend's houses when I go to hang out with them. They've also gone with me to see local bands play, to get dinner somewhere, to a graveyard. (Don't ask.) I want to take them to a park sometime soon, and to some anime cons, as well as some other places.
23. Is there a regular place you take your doll out to?
Probably Hartman's! XD He lives right down the street from me, so when I go hang out with him, I usually drag one of them along. ^^
24. If you do take your doll out of the house, how do you carry her? (ex. SD violin case, backpack,etc)
I don't have a carry-bag for them, but I'd love to get a coffin-styled case for them sometime! I'm going to need something to carry them in, especially when Jiko gets here. XD; Until that happens, I just carry them in my arms. I sit Vikas in Shikai's lap, and Shikai sits on my lower arm and I drag them around like that.
25. When you do take your doll out, is it easy to do or do you find it's more trouble than it's worth?
Not really. Vikas is really easy to haul around since he's so small, Shikai causes a bit more problems. But I rather like having them with me, so even if it is a bit troublesome to carry them around, I don't mind. ^^
26. Does your doll have a friend? Do you think your doll wants a friend?
They have each other right now, but I don't know if they'd call each other 'friends' at the moment. XD; Shikai has Jiko (his SO) and an older brother, and Jiko has a twin sister, and there's the rest of the Schism cast and we're not even going to think about turning ALL of them into BJDs right now. XD; Vikas also knows a few people from his storyline, though I don't know if there's any he's close enough to to want to see them brought here. (But Aiken might materialize wheter he likes it or not!) XD;
27. If you could build your dream FCS for free, what would it be?
Rigth now, a normal-skinned F-21 head boy with green eyes and orange hair, who would be my Jiko. MUST. HAVE. JIKO. *_____*
28. What is your favorite optional head?
I don't know if I can say I have a favorite. The F-28 head is definitly my favorite for Shikai like the 21 head is my favorite for Jiko- i.e. it depends on what/who I'd want to use it for. XD;
29. What is your least favorite optional head?
Likewise, I don't really have a least favorite. I can see good things in almsot all the heads, but mostly the ones I don't care for are the girls heads. There's very few girl molds I like enough to actually purchase. I do really dislike the MSD Yuni head. And suprisinly enought the Sasha head, but only because it's too much like the 28 and the 28 I just -can't- se as a girl. You'd have to do a really good job to make me like a 28 girl. I'm not too fond of Tohya either, or Syo, but there's also been so many cases where someone will take a mold I don't like and turn it into something realy gorgoues!
30. What type of fantasy head would you like to see produced?
Older male head molds. Like middle-age 45 year old men head molds. Older men are sexay!! X33
31. What is your favorite wig for your doll?
For Shikai, his default navy W-55. It's the perfect wig for his character and I doubt he'll ever wear any other wig much at all. For Vikas the current fave is a DOD W-24 even if it does make him look a bit girly to some people. XD
32. What made you choose your SD out of all the various types?
It was the best mold that fit for a character I'd been drawing for quite a long time. This will be the case for most my BJDs, though Vikas was just because I'm a sucker for pouty little boys, and the Jerome mold is too adorable! X3
33. Do you change your SD's wig often and have you tried styling the wigs?
For Shikai, no. he has other wigs, but rarely wears them. Vikas also has a number of different wigs, but usually wears his black one most of the time. Styling, yes, I think I've taken the scissors to just about every wig Vikas has. XD;;
34. How many wigs do you have?
Er... A lot, but not a huuuge amount. I don't think I've counted yet. I have wigs for dolls I don't even own yet!
35. How many shoes do you have for your doll? Does your doll have socks too?
Three pairs for Vikas, two for Shikai (even though he doesn't like wearing them.) They both have socks as well, but don't wear them all the time.
36. What types of clothing does your doll wear? (name in order of favorite styles)
Vikas: He's not too picky. He likes things that have some amount of bright colors, but not tooo bright. Stripes are good with him, and he loves his armwarmers. Mostly just casual sort of stuff, I guess. XD;
Shikai: Black, black black. That and collared dress shirts, sometimes ties, and definitly his trench coat. Clunky boots. He really doesn't care much about fashion or how he looks at all, so he'll wear almost anything I put on him. For a little while anyway. ^^
37. Where do you purchase your SD clothing?
Domuya, Dream of Doll, Ebay, or I just make my own. I try only buy things I know I can't make, as buying clothes gets horribly expensive. >_0
38. Do you sew clothing for your doll?
Yes indeed! I've been sewing since I was young, so it's somehting I find quite enjoyable anyway- Part of the reason I got into them because it would be fun making them clothes. =D
39. Do you plan on dressing your doll as an anime character? If so, who?
I want to make a little Trigun cosplay at some point with me as Dominqiue the Cyclops, Shikai as Legato, and VBikas as Zaziee!!! And I'll liekly do other as well, but for now that's my only plan. ^^
40. Do you make accessories for you doll? What kinds?
I'll make necklaces and stuff like that on occasion, but not too much of that stuff. Maybe furniture sometime.
41. Have you made doll items that you plan on selling?
Oufits! I've done one ebay auction as of yet, with plans to do more. Perhaps opena store at some point and take commissions as well.
42. Do you sew/knit/crochet and for how long?
Been sewing for a veeery long time, as my mom taught me as I was growing up. I also used to know how to crochet, but it's been so long I've porbably forgotten now XD;
43. Is there a type of music that you listen to when you are with your dolls?
All my standard stuff, electronic, industrial, random weird shit. There's not one type I'll listen to when they're around (Cause they're always around.)
44. Have you ever thought about opening a doll shop?
Yes. Porbably will too, for doll clothes.
45. Do you have a specific area in your home where you keep your SD?
My room, or more specifically on my desk where I have an area reserved for them. ^^
46. For how long did you know about SDs before you actually got your SD?
Probably about a year, little less. I first found out about them through Rhian (GLOMP!!) while she was saving up for Sadame, and it all went downhill from there.
47. Do you carry your doll around in the house?
Yeap, sometimes.
48. Is there a special place in your house that you like to sit with your doll?
No place in particular, though I'm prone to dragging them to bed with me when I go to sleep.
49. What are the comments you have heard in regards to your doll, after others have seen it in person?
I've heard that they're creepy, pointless, beautiful, neat, attention-grabbing, etc etc etc, that they're girls..... But on the whole, most people seem to like them.
50. Does your doll have their own website?
Yeap indeed.
51. What is the color of your doll(s) eyes now? Also give the size of eyes, too.
Blue for both boys. A darker greyish blue (18mm) for Shikai, and a very pale sky blue (16mm) in Vikas.
52. What is your favorite eye color for your doll(s) and why?
Blue for Shikai, because that is his eyecolor. i doubt I'll ever change it much since he was a set character long before he was a doll. Vikas, nit sure if I have a favorite yet.
53. How often do you change the eyes?
Rarely.
54. How many different pairs of eyes do you have for your doll?
Only a few for Vikas, one for Shikai.
55. Do you believe your doll has a "soul"?
Yes and no... I believe they have a soul, but it's an extension of my own as well. Like I planted a seed and watched it grow, if that makes sense.
56. Do you talk to your doll?
Yup. But only when there's no one else in the room, sooometimes in front of others if they're one of my friends who 'get it.'
57. When talking to your doll, how does she address you?
They just call me by my name. Though Shikai often refers to me as 'bitch', 'woman', 'girl', 'Hey You' etc etc etc quite often as well. XD; (He really does like me, he's just got this weird quirk about not using people's names.)
58. How do men react to your doll?
Many men have found them quite freaky/spooky, others find them fascinating and will sit there and play with them quite a bit. My Dad, being teh engineer, was rather interested in how they worked and were held together and all that sort of stuff. Some of them (like my brothers) are just horribly amused. XD
59. What was your favorite childhood doll growing up and why?
I didn't like dolls. I was a MY LITTLE PONIES GIRL!! Barbies I really didn't care for at all, but I played with them because everyone else did.
60. Did you have to sell items from a personal collection to raise money to purchase your doll?
Not really. I saved most of it through tax returns and bonuses I get through work, and from selling prints/shirts/books of my artwork.
61. If so, what did you sell?
See above.
62. How much do you spend on your doll a month? What is the maximum you would spend?
Oof. I don't know, and don't think I want to know, on either point. XD;;;
63. Have you purchased something you regretted later?
As of yet, no.
64. Do you like buying clothing sets for your doll?
Yup. But only if it's something I would KILL for. If it's something I can make myself I make it myself because clothing can get expeeeensive. >_<
65. How often do you change your dolls clothing?
Every couple of days or so. Sometime many times in one day, especially if I'm in the process of sewing a new outfit.
66. If you could take your doll anywhere with you in the world, where would that be?
Anywhere I happened to go. XD There's plently of places I want to visit, and I want to drag them with me everywhere. ^^
67. Have you ever done something to your SD and felt bad about it? (ex. leaving her naked all night, dropping her)
Vikas has fallen several times (once on concrete, once on carpet, once in some bushes, once into the pond...) but with no damage done. Actually, after fishing him out of the pond, I felt horrible but couldn't stop laughing either which made me feel worse! XDD
68. What paint brand do you use on your doll?
Liquitex, or whatever arclyic paint in readily available.
69. If you were stranded on a deserted island with your doll, what 3 things would you want for your doll to have?
Besides my each other and/or their clothes? XD
70. Does your doll have a girlfriend/boyfriend?
Shikai has a boyfriend, who's not here yet. And boy, does he let me know it... >>;
71. Does your doll have siblings (ex. brother/sister)?
Shikai has an older brother and Jiko has a twin sister. Vikas has a few cousins over in the UK, and a couple older siblings.
72. Will you pierce your doll's ears?
If I ever get my Apollo doll, hell yes. I migth pierce Jiko's as well, maaaaybe Shikai's... (if he lets me..)
73. Have you given your doll a manicure? What color?
Nope.
74. Did you do the esthetic process on your doll?
I did for Vikas. I do his face-ups, and I sanded and blushed him. I'll likely blush Shikai at some point too.
75. If so, are you glad you did?
Yeah, more or less! =D Blushing is actually very fun- I might start offering that service to people who want it done on their dolls. ^^Faceups, I'm not so good at, but I'm working on it. XD;;

77. If you could change anything they did with the SD body, what would it be?
I want Shikai to have the new long-legged boy body, so he'll be taler than Jiko. XDD I also really like how they have the tight joints on the new Yuni MSD body that I'd love to see on bigger dolls maybe, or the double waist joint like Kaede has!
78. Have you sueded and wired your doll?
Nope, but plan to wire both of them at some point. ^^
79. If your SD could be friends with any other SD, which SD would it be?
Well, they're both on their way to becoming friends with my friend's SDs, and they'll probably make plently more in the future. I couldn't really name just one though, as there's so many cool dolls out there! ^^
80. Do you plan to get more SDs in the future?
Fuck yes. I WILL have a pair of Sato F21 twins, for Jiko and his sister Kitoku. (Girl 21 BUWHAHAHA!) I'll also likely end up with a Quay, who would likely be an F17. And I need to get a friend Vikas' size, most likely a Blue Fairy Tommy or Niky.
Others I'd like to get but may not ever do so:

82. Do you change the paint on your SDs often?
No. Shikai's I'm not sure if I'll EVER change, because Volks really did do a perfect job on him. Vikas willf or sure, as my faceup skills still aren't the best. XD;
83. What is your SDs favorite color?
Shikai: Black, Vikas: Red? Maybe? XD
84. In general, what is your SDs mood or look?
Shikai's very moody, cynical and reserved. He has a very minimalist fashion sense and likes his clothes to say as little about him as possible. Vikas is much happier, a bit hyper and excitable, likes to be the center of attention and always doing soemthing fun. Clothing wise, he likes some bright colors and fun designs, sort of trendy/punkish. But he's not too picky about what he wears. XD
85. Describe your SD's favorite outfit.
Shikai: Black pants, black dress shirt, black trench coat. Vikas: black leather pants and red jersey shirt.
86. Does your SD have a formal name? What is it?
Shikai Hitasura, Jiko Akatsuki. Vikas hasn't told me his last name yet. ^^
87. Do you have any colored wigs for you SDs? (green, pink, blue, purple, etc) Which ones?
Shikai never changes from his standard navy blue wig. Vikas changes from black to brown to sometimes blonde, and he also has this looong blue/white wig that he doesn't like wearing. XD;
88. What SD would you like to see in the future?
Older looking men SDs. Or, if Bermann ever revives OMG~! There!!
89. If you have more than one SD, do you favor one over the others?
I try not to, but uh... yeah. Shikai's my baby. I love him to bits and he's got a special place none of the other could really replace. XD;;
90. Is your SD for display only?
No. They gte played with and abused by my dirty hands plently. XD
91. Do you have any brand name clothing for your SDs?
I have some Volks clothing, Custom House, and Ajumapama.
92. Is there any SDs you regret not buying?
Not as of yet.. There were a few times I though I would regret not buying a certain one, but eventually I was glad I didn't.
93. Do any of your friends own SDs?
Yeap, a number of my online buds do! ^^ One or two of my IRL buds are also interested in them, but dunno if they'll get one. XD:
94. Do you have SD get togethers?
Yuki and I definitly will, but it'll have to be at cons since that's about the only times we get to see each other since we live far away. Tamara lives much closer though, and we'll be meeting up for the first time this month at Sugoicon. ^^
95. Have you lied about the true cost of your SD to your family or friends?
Yeap. Mostly to my parents, by shaving a few hundred dollars off. XD;
96. Do you think of yourself as being obsessive about your SD? If so, explain?
Yeah, but I tend to be obssessive about things anyway. If it wasn't SDs, it'd be something else.
97. If the house was on fire, what would you grab first? Your SD, wallet, clothes or no time and save yourself?
Wallets and clothes are replaceable. SDs are not. Grab them first! XO
98. Did you buy a digital camera only because you wanted to take pictures of your SD to show off online?
I sorta did, but I also have plently of other uses for a digital camera hence why I got one.
99. If you passed on, who gets your SD? wife/husband/kids/best friend/no one...it goes with me! Explain why!
Can I have them buried with me? XDDD To be perfectly honest, I don't know. Most likely one of my good friends who are also into SDs and who will know and appreciate their full value. I'd want them to remained loved and cared for after I was gone.
100. Do you think you'll ever tire of your SD? Why/Why not?
Nope. 1. Because it's a hobby that ties together many of my hobbies- painting, sewing, photography, webdesign, etc etc. 2. They grow up and change with you. Shikai in particular, he's been growing up with me for years before I got him in doll form, and I seriously doubt he'll be going away anytime soon.
